No Vanity

There is green, and then there is the delicate
curled chartreuse ribs of a fern frond
as sunlight trips fantastic through the rhythm
and hum of a late afternoon, busiest time of day
for folding in fragments of lost time in preparation
for the long shadows of impending nightfall;

Meanwhile peachy colored bell-shaped blossoms
drop from angel trumpet trees, hibiscus hybrids
twist tight their once-riotous display and do
not contemplate whether enough eyes
have witnessed the shade or texture of what has,
for them, taken not inconsiderable time and effort
to pull together for all who would witness,
setting the stage for a repeat performance
on tomorrows yet to come, bold beauties
on parade, regardless.

  1. This poem, and your photos, reminds me of Spring which is in your part of the world πŸ™‚ ‘as sunlight trips fantastic through the rhythm and hum of a late afternoon’ This phrase caught my eye. The late afternoon is the busiest time of the day for many of us – finishing work, competing with traffic to make it home as soon as possible, or getting ready for tomorrow. In between these moments the suns shines one more time and goes down for the day.

These flowers look so pretty. Even when wet they aren’t afraid to come out and play. Happy Spring ❀

    1. Thanks so much, Mabel! Yes, well, Spring has rather too quickly become summer and the dramatic rise in temperatures is quite uncomfortable. It’s hard to curtail time outside to early mornings and late afternoons, but really it’s crucial to my sanity. Crazy weather times on planet 🌎. Love to you, dear Mabel!

    1. Haha, Betty, more like nature has done it again. And again. Without her inspiration, I would offer far, erm, less. Too much to comment on that’s depressing and awful. Far better I stick with beauty. Aloha, dear. πŸ’•πŸŒΊπŸŒˆ
