Behind the Words

Writing for me is a sweet and savage business – hefting raw slabs of emotion onto the block and crafting jumbles of words into descriptions for amorphous perceptions and feelings.

Photography complements the pen, and I’ve long lived in places most suited to my lens.

Here’s hoping my particular blend of image and word captures piques your senses. I welcome your valued input from all corners of this amazing world.

  13. I found what you said on Shakti’s post recently and was so happy how you expressed your feelings about President Barack Obama. I am like you, feel that he is trying so hard to please everyone, being diplomatic and sincere in his caring about our country and world. I appreciated how you explained being from Hawaii, you are raised to think of being open and caring. I am interpreting how you wrote this out, with great detail. I just wish to follow you and hear more of what you think about on many different subjects. Although my blog was first considered a fun place, witless dating after fifty, became evolved into my byline, “relationships reveal our hearts.” Take care, Robin

    1. Ah! I was no academic editor, per se, Cindy, but I can see how you would have arrived at that conclusion 😉 I spent years in my profession as Medical Intuitive. I was definitely more public than I wanted to be, but felt compelled to share what I was learning with others. Thus I conducted radio interviews for nine years and wrote a regular column for a couple of statewide papers. Occasionally I would also submit to a larger publication out of Boston, but I just didn’t want to get anymore ‘known’ than that. Omega Institute in New York was beckoning, but the whole ‘New Age Movement’ was not attractive to me. Rather I was interested, one on one, in helping others to follow their own directives rather than those of a ‘spiritual teacher.’ In the end, sourcing answers to questions within seems far more reliable than ‘following the leader.’

      But yes, free the writers! I’ve written poetry since I was old enough to pick up a pencil and paper. Nothing could have stopped me then or now. Peace, love, and gratitude. Aloha!

    1. Aloha Victoria: Thank you so much. How kind of you! No big deal, as often it is the case on the northwest corner of the Big Island. Hilo, on the other hand, got severe floods. It’s the east end of this island that does get the brunt of these storms. We tend to get high winds and sheets of rain, but not bad enough to do significant damage usually. But I think I’ll take a ride this morning over the mountain to see what Mother Nature has wrought – it’s a great place to view the entire west end of the island. I’ve been on that road in big downpours and there is water cascading down every gully and crevasse, streaming across the road. It’s something to come upon unexpectedly when it’s the only road home. I don’t expect those conditions this morning. Take care, and again, my thanks. ❤

  28. Occasionally, when someone gives me an insincere “how are you?” and I’m in a bit of an off-mood, I answer; “I’ve got some stories that would bring tears to your eyes.” They generally hasten along.
