Have you ever heard something fall
under water, the dull scrape
of a fishing weight onto granite rock,
the drag, fisherman on the surface,
oblivious to you hiding, suspended
alongside dull mossy green bass,
still and not struggling between
crevasses of boulders, tumbled by time
into that glacial abyss; now tugging
his thin nylon line free, only to break
calm waters to cast again, this time
perhaps successfully;
The shafts of brilliant sunlight
as they pierce the shimmering pond,
how they illuminate that same boulder,
glint of metal on stone, almost too startling
for limited vision, breath taken in order
to descend, lungs now burning,
foolish gill-less fish, unable to remain
submerged indefinitely;
And now I rest under the bluest sky,
breathing in, exhaling that thin mountain air
without effort, cracking of beaks breaking seed
or the snoring of dogs, discerning sounds
as if in command of my own destiny, which,
as we know, is as indistinct a fabrication
as those distant lakeside conjurings.
A beautiful reflection Bela. Thank you πππΌπ

Thanks so much, my friend. We have lived in some idyllic places, always on water until here. And with the fires raging everywhere, I dream of water. How is your summer going? Are you getting a lot of wet weather still?
Thanks, as always, for your kind words, Sue. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

Loved the descriptive quality. Tubularsock is always looking for the “fishy” in most things but your work always points to a higher level which is always present ………… thanks again Bela.
Now back to the political decay of the capitalist system!

Ohmygod. Decay for sure.
Glad you could get a little fishy respite! With all these wildfires, all I can think about is all … that … water … !! And we’re supposed to be getting rain for about a week starting Friday? I hope all is well with you, TS. I think you are on the other side of this midnight fire? At any rate, do take care. π

Thanks so much, Val! We have just been busy working in the garden and in the greenhouse we just finished! So it’s all good. I will be posting something next week as well. Thanks, my friend. It means a lot that you took the time to write and send such comforting wishes! ππ

Projects are such a good way to keep bringing in our skills, giving focus, and being practical for things that we feel need to be done. Itβs more than busyness when we feel the soul connection. So glad you feel this comfort π₯°ππΌπ

A wonderful poem, Bela. Very reflective. Like Sue, I heard the scrape of the weight on the rock. It is quite a different world underwater, a world that some of us can only imagine but a world that some of us choose to venture by swimming or diving. I always like seeing sunlight gleam across lakes and waters especially on a nice sunny day. There’s something so tranquil about that. So much to ponder beside peaceful places and moments like these. Hope you are enjoying your summer, Bela. It’s winter here, pretty wet and grey this year. Enjoy the sun for me π

Oof, that is right, Mabel! When I lived in Hawaii, I thought about these north/south of the equator things a lot more than I do now. Maybe it’s that the world is totally flipped upside down, mentally speaking. I don’t know. And so here we are now, up in the mountains in the high desert with no water to swim in anywhere! This is the first time in my life I have not lived directly on or very near a body of water. It is very very strange. But also beautiful. It remains to be seen how long we remain here, maybe a short time, maybe a very long time! We were definitely pulled here, as is almost everyone I know who is not from this area. We keep meeting really interesting people. Sometimes I wonder if we are just gathering some sort of soul tribe.
At any rate, I sincerely hope you are doing well, and enjoying winter as much as you can. Sending you sunlight and puffy clouds. And love. πππͺ΄π€

That is quite an experience, to go from living around water to inland up in the mountains. Maybe this season of life needs you to be there. Enjoy connecting with your tribe there, Bela. Stay safe ππ€
